Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, the Secretary General of BNP, has accused the Awami League of embezzling Tk 900 billion over their 15-year tenure in power. He lamented the widespread corruption, mismanagement, and money laundering prevalent in the banking sector, which, he claims, has severely damaged the national economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He alleged that the ruling party has depleted the country’s resources, diverting them overseas. Referring to various sources and media reports, he claimed that Tk 900 billion has been unlawfully taken from both the banking sector and other domains since 2009.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Fakhrul pointed out that the lack of new investments has hindered Bangladesh’s ability to generate employment opportunities, perpetuating poverty among the disadvantaged and exacerbating income inequality. He advocated for a united effort to restore democracy and accountability, suggesting the formation of a neutral caretaker government to oversee free and fair elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He criticized the government’s portrayal of development through infrastructure projects, arguing that corruption allegations have tainted the economy. Fakhrul highlighted a recent loan scandal involving Tk 300 billion, labeling it as the largest in Bangladesh’s history, and expressed concerns about the economic slowdown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Emphasizing the importance of accountability for effective governance and upholding the rule of law, Fakhrul argued that the current government’s lack of accountability poses risks to various aspects of society. He described the Awami League government as fascist and asserted that the country’s economy, politics, culture, and judicial system are not secure under their administration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
