Illegal activities of police and judiciary in Bangladesh

There have been numerous reports of illegal activities by police and judiciary officials in Bangladesh. These include:

• Corruption: Police and judges are involved in corruption, such as taking bribes to release suspects from custody, falsifying evidence, and accepting bribes to influence court decisions.

• Torture: Police officers have been accused of torturing suspects in custody, often to extract confessions.

• Extrajudicial killings: There have been numerous reports of extrajudicial killings by police, often in the form of “crossfire” killings.

• Political bias: Judges have been accused of being biased in their rulings, often favoring the ruling party or influential individuals.

These illegal activities have a devastating impact on the rule of law and the lives of ordinary citizens in Bangladesh. They undermine trust in the police and judiciary, and they create a climate of fear and impunity.

In recent years, there have been some efforts to address these problems. The Anti-Corruption Commission has been actively investigating corruption cases involving police and judges. The government has also established a Human Rights Commission to investigate allegations of human rights abuses.

However, more needs to be done to root out corruption and abuse of power in the police and judiciary. This includes strengthening accountability mechanisms, providing better training for police officers and judges, and ensuring that they are held accountable for their actions.
