Mohammed Abdus Sobhan Miah worked as a cab driver, pizza cook, and drugstore clerk while living in New York City, but a few years after returning to Bangladesh to serve as an aide to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, he started secretly snapping up properties in the city worth millions.
While working low-paying jobs in New York, Mohammed Abdus Sobhan Miah remained close to Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
In 2009, Miah was appointed as Hasina’s “special assistant,” an influential role but one that paid just $1,000 a month.
Five years later, Miah began acquiring real estate in Queens, New York City. He bought at least nine properties, worth over $4 million in total.
