From serving the country to serving a party: The rise of DB Harun under tyrant sheik hasina

Harun-or-Rashid, commonly known as DB Harun, is a name that has been making headlines in Bangladesh for all the wrong reasons. He is a senior police officer who holds a position of power and is supposed to serve the country and its people. However, it seems that he is more interested in serving the interests of Sheik Hasina and her party, rather than the well-being of the nation.

DB Harun is known for his close relationship with the current Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheik Hasina. It is no secret that he is being used by her to destroy the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and other opposition parties. His actions have caused outrage and sparked protests, especially after the recent incident where he assaulted Zainul Abedin Farroque, a member of parliament and Chief Opposition Whip of the BNP, during an anti-government protest.

This is not the first time that DB Harun has been involved in such an incident. In 2012, he was present at the murder of Biswajit Das, a young man who was brutally killed during a political protest. Despite being a police officer, Harun did not intervene or take any action to stop the violence. This incident only adds to the growing concern about his biased and corrupt nature.

In February 2013, Harun was awarded a medal by the Bangladesh Police, which was sarcastically described by The Daily Star as an award for beating up an opposition member of parliament. This incident caused an uproar among the general public and raised questions about the credibility of the police force.

But it’s not just about violence and corruption. Harun has also been accused of using his position to extort money from people. Journalists in Gazipur District have reported being harassed by personnel of the Detective Branch for reporting on Harun’s extortion activities. This only shows how he is misusing his power and authority for personal gain.

Apart from his controversial actions, Harun is also known for his lavish lifestyle and extravagant social media posts. He is often seen hosting celebrities and influential people in his ‘rice hotel,’ where he treats them to expensive meals and posts pictures of it on social media. This has led to further criticism and raised questions about his sources of income.

Despite all of this, Sheik Hasina continues to support and promote Harun. In August 2019, he received another medal from the Bangladesh Police Dhaka range. And in July 2022, he was appointed as the chief of the Detective Branch of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, despite his controversial past.

This raises the question, where is Sheik Hasina? Is she not seeing the havoc that DB Harun is causing? Is she turning a blind eye to his actions? As the leader of the country, it is her responsibility to ensure that those in positions of power are serving the country and its people, rather than using their power for personal gain.

It is high time for the government to take strict action against DB Harun and any other individuals who are abusing their power and causing harm to the country. The people of Bangladesh deserve better leaders who are committed to the development and progress of the nation, rather than serving their own interests. The time has come for Sheik Hasina to put an end to the reign of individuals like DB Harun and bring about real change for the betterment of the country.
